GREENWOOD POLICE HOST FIFTH NATIONAL NIGHT OUT

The Greenwood Police Department held its fifth annual National Night Out on August 5, 2008 from 6:00pm to 9:00pm on the Greenwood Town Square. The fifth year of the event was a great time for all involved with plenty of food, games, and valuable information. The National Night Out served to educate our citizens on crime prevention awareness, safety, and health.

The National Night Out started with the presentation of the colors by the Greenwood High School JROTC and the National Anthem. The Greenwood Police Department unveiled five patrol units which have photos of missing children on the back windows of the vehicles. Colleen Nick spoke about the importance of the “Bring Them Home” campaign being sponsored by the Morgan Nick Foundation. The Greenwood Police Department has become only the third department in the State of Arkansas to participate in this ground breaking campaign.

State Representative Steve Breedlove and Mayor Ken Edwards reminded the community about the need for strong public safety services, and the important role the community played in maintaining these services. The Sebastian County Sheriff's Department, Greenwood Police Department, and Greenwood City Fire Department highlighted the local services available to the citizens of Greenwood. Bikers Against Child Abuse and the Morgan Nick Foundation gave citizens the opportunity to see additional community resources available which provide a support system for police and fire departments.

The Greenwood Police Department works hard and takes pride in making our community a safer place for our citizens to live. Educating the citizens of Greenwood in crime prevention will aid the Greenwood Police Department in the deterrence and detection of crime. We are honored to host an educational, fun filled event for our district and invite the citizens of Greenwood to join us in this experience.
