As the holidays wrap up and the cold weather sets in most of us are spending our time drinking hot cocoa and sitting by the fireplace.
Members of the Greenwood Police Department have a different idea of winter fun. They will be going for a swim at the Vache Grasse Country Club on Jan. 16 at 1 p.m. as a part of the annual Polar Bear Plunge.
Proceeds from the plunge help to support year-round sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities or developmental disabilities who participate in the Special Olympics of Arkansas.
Anyone interested in collecting donations and jumping into the icy water can contact Lieutenant Will Dawson at 996-4119 or Sergeant Mark Mergen at 957-9139. Jumpers need to fill out a registration form and contribution form. Forms can be mailed back to the Special Olympics or brought to Vache Grasse on the day of the plunge.
$50 is the minimum amount of donation collection for plungers. $50 allows volunteers to plunge and to receive a t-shirt.
Costumes are encouraged and rewarded so come dressed up in your finest, funniest or whatever you can find and enjoy the day. Wet suits are not allowed and shoes are recommended.
The Greenwood Police Department raises money throughout the year for the Special Olympics at events such as the Polar Bear Plunge and the annual Torch Run.
