GPD Selects 2009 Officer of the Year  

The Greenwood Police Department recently held its Fifth Annual Awards Banquet.

The awards banquet recognizes police officers and support staff for outstanding work during the course of the year, culminating with the announcement of Officer of the Year; who is selected by his/her peers.
The recipient of the 2009 "Police Officer of the Year" award was Detective Tim Heffner. Detective Heffner was honored at the banquet with the award that is presented annually by the previous year's winner. Detective Heffner is currently assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division.

Others receiving awards were Lieutenant Will Dawson - Outstanding DWI Enforcement, Sergeant Mark Mergen -Community Service Award and Ten Year Service Award, Investigator David Stewart - Ambassador Award, Officer Brad Hobbs and Officer Mike McCaslin - Team Achievement Award, and Investigator Kathy McCaslin - Chief's Award of Excellence; presented annually by the Chief of Police, Keith Jackson.

Support Services Manager Amy Ward, and Animal Control Officer Chris Fuller were both recognized with Awards of Appreciation for their outstanding work during the registration of animals following the implementation of the new Animal Control Ordinance for the City of Greenwood.
