The Greenwood Police Department is delighted to present the National Night Out being held on August 5, 2008 from 6:00pm to 9:00pm on the Greenwood Town Square, Greenwood, AR. This will be our fifth year in the event and we are working to build a tradition of participation in this national event. The National Night Out serves to educate our citizens on crime prevention awareness, safety, and health.
This is a night where law enforcement and the citizens of Greenwood come together to support crime prevention. We are asking the Greenwood community to turn their porch lights on during this time to light up their neighborhoods, and show their support for America’s night out against crime. In keeping with this tradition, the Greenwood Police Department and area sponsors have teamed up to help make our neighborhoods safer for the elderly citizens of Greenwood. The Greenwood Police Department and area sponsors will be assisting elderly Greenwood residents in making their homes better lit and safer through the installation of one free motion sensor security light. The single light will be installed free of charge and will replace any existing light on the residence. With the increased visibility, residents can feel more secure in their homes, and enjoy the high quality of life afforded to Greenwood residents.
Criteria for the free motion light program:
- Must be 60 years of age or older
- Reside inside of the City Limits of Greenwood
- Income of 20,000 per year or less for single resident
- Income of 40,000 per year or less for married residents
If you meet this criteria, please fill out and application and return it to the Greenwood Police Department by July 1, 2008. Once your application is received, you will be contacted by a member of the Greenwood Police Department to set up an appointment for the installation. The installations will occur the last two weeks of August and the first two weeks of September.
We will also have activities for children, including a bounce around and face painting. There will also be a concession stand, music, donation giveaways, and booths from various participating organizations. There will also be a flash light walk on August 4, 2008 which starts at Farmer’s Bank.
The Greenwood Police Department works hard and takes pride in making our community a safer place for our citizens to live. Educating the citizens of Greenwood in crime prevention will aid the Greenwood Police Department in the deterrence and detection of crime. We are honored to host an educational, fun filled event for our district and invite the citizens of Greenwood to join us in this experience.
