Denver Street Bridge to be closed beginning October 12th

In an effort to improve the infrastructure of the City of Greenwood, the bridge over Hartsell Creek will be closed for construction. The work will require the closing of Denver Street from the intersection of W Denver and W Center Street to the intersection of W Denver Street and Jones Street. Access to business such as the La Fiesta restaurant will only be from the entrance on W Center Street.

School bus traffic which normally traveled down W Denver to continue westbound on W Center Street will be routed around to Bell RD where they will continue westbound on W Center Street. Residents are encouraged to find alternate routes and to be patient to allow for the adjustment period of the new traffic routes.

“The temporary inconvenience created by this construction will be far outweighed by the benefits to the City of Greenwood”, said Lt James Flynn.

The project is slated to take 130 days; however, this time restriction does not apply to the time period from December 21st through March 15th due to weather issues. A conservative estimate puts the completion date at June 15, 2010. However, construction may be completed earlier barring any severe weather delays.
